    Moore Norman Technology Center's Career Exploration Education students have offered their hands in volunteer work all school year, but have focused their efforts this winter with drives for Meals on Wheels and Food and Shelter for Friends.

    Moore Norman Technology Center's Pre-Engineering Team 1742, the SHOCKWAVE, bagged and tagged their robot entry for the regional FIRST Robotics Competition that will be held March 25-27 at the Oklahoma City Cox Convention Center. Winners from this, and other regional competitions from across the United States, will travel to Atlanta, Ga. to compete for the FIRST Championship April 15-18 under the lights of the Georgia Dome.

    Moore Norman Technology Center is offering a youth driver awareness program this spring called "Alive at 25" targeted to drivers ages 15-24. The next session is 5-9 p.m. Thursday March 4 at MNTC's Franklin Road Campus in Norman. The cost is $35 and a current learner's permit or a driver's license is not necessary. The sessions are taught by Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers. Subsequent sessions are April 8 and May 6.

    After the rush of this year’s holiday season has past, most people regain a sense of normalcy about their schedules and daily concerns. However, there are youth in Norman and Moore who know that “normal” holds quite a different meaning. It’s when people are in situations like these that those like Nancy Holt and the students in her Entrepreneurship class do their best work.

    Holt has been the Entrepreneurship instructor at Moore Norman Technology Center for 27 years, and has been involved in just about double the number of community service projects since.

    The Cleveland County Business & Industry Council and Moore Norman Technology Center have partnered to create innovative and convenient webinar meetings over the Internet. The kick-off webinar is "Cleveland County Business and Industry Council - Legislative Forum" from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 13.

    This webinar will feature a panel of local legislators with the possibility of U.S. Congressman Tom Cole linking in from Washington, D.C. Topics are discussed in real-time and are relative to local and state business issues.

    Moore Norman Technology Center is offering a free workshop on understanding and qualifying as an 8A business from 10 a.m. - Noon, Thursday Sept. 17 at MNTC's South Penn Campus, Room P110. Participants will gain insights into some of the most-asked questions about becoming an 8A, or minority-owned, business, and how this status can help in qualifying for more government contracts. The seminar is offered through a partnership between Moore Norman Technology Center, the Pioneer Library System, Counselors to America's Small Business (SCORE) and Rural Enterprises of Oklahoma, Inc.

    Moore Norman Technology Center earned high honors during the 42nd Oklahoma Association of Career & Technology Education August Conference held at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City earlier this month. MNTC earned the title of Gold Star School for an eighth time, the organization was recognized for its Partners for Progress initiative, and Special Projects Director Jeanette Capshaw earned the Outstanding Educator of the Year Award.
