This career major prepares students to become an integral member of a surgical team working closely with the surgeon, the anesthesiologist and the registered nurse to deliver direct patient care before, during and after surgery. They are responsible for preparation of sterile supplies, equipment and instruments and serve as instrument handlers by “passing” them to the surgeon. Through training in the cognitive (knowledge), affective (behavioral), and psychomotor (skill) domains as well as utilizing various teaching and testing methods, students will be prepared for employment as an entry level Surgical Technologist.
