Nurse Aide

Choose from these Career Majors:

Nurse Aide (High School Only)

Build your nursing career foundation by learning Certified Nurse Aide skills and earning two state certifications: Long Term Care Nurse Aide and Home Health Aide. Nurse aides are also known as nursing assistants, certified nursing assistants, geriatric aides, and patient care technicians. Nurse Aides provide hands-on care and perform routine tasks in long term care facilities, hospitals, and patient’s homes under the supervision of nursing and medical staff. Specific tasks vary, with aides handling many aspects of a patient’s care. They are the principal caregivers and have more contact with residents and patients than do other members of the staff. They often help patients to eat, dress, bathe, toilet, take vital signs, help patients and provide skin care. Aides make important observations of the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional conditions and make reports of any changes to the nursing or medical staff. Students are provided the opportunity to use the theory in practical clinical experiences. The clinical experience may extend beyond class time, but will not interfere with a student’s high school class schedule. Students must provide their own transportation to clinicals.
