Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (Adult Only)

This career major prepares students to use special equipment that directs high frequency sound waves into a patient’s body. These waves reflect echoes and form an image, that may be videotaped, transmitted, or photographed for diagnosis by a physician. During patient scans, they look for subtle cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones by taking measurements, calculating values, and analyzing the results into a preliminary finding report. Sonographers also keep patient records, maintain equipment and prepare work schedules.
