Pre-Engineering is a college preparatory program for those interested in an engineering career. Students apply the theories and principles of science and mathematics to research and develop economical solutions to technical problems. Engineers design products, machinery, factories, systems, efficiency and manufacturing processes that ensure the quality of the products they help design. This knowledge is used to design, plan, and supervise the construction of buildings, highways, and transit systems. Students can complete five engineering courses in the two year program, and possibly up to seven in the NPS four year program.

MNTC Pre-Engineering students, upon making at least an 85% in the class, qualify to take an end of instruction test in 4 of the 5 classes taught in the career major. The student's score on that test can be transcribed for college credit at Project Lead the Way (PLTW) affiliate universities. Individual Colleges of Engineering around the country may recognize all, part, or none of the transcribed class credits depending on individual school policies.
